Northern Currents - Spring 2001Print This Page

Hello from the Yukon!

Here in the north we are already bathed in the long hours of invigorating sunlight. Round the clock daylight of the summer is not far off, along with all of the northern adventure that goes with it!

The skies are lively (and noisy) as migrating species are already arriving to their northern homes. In this edition we will examine the status of the northernmost home of the Porcupine Caribou herd and the factors to consider when selecting binoculars for wildlife viewing.

I have just returned from my last slide show of the season. I never tire of viewing the northern images and sharing stories of adventure. Catching up with past guests and hearing of upcoming holiday plans is exhilarating for me. They come from all walks of life – from Heads of State to professional travelers. From the discussions it is obvious that these active holidays are an important lifestyle activity for everyone. They value the "richness of life" that these experiences bring.

One of them jokingly referred to our trips as "holidays on the rivers of youth". We chuckled about it but I was struck by the connection. With healthy meals, morning stretching, enjoyable activities and the ease of outdoor living, it is no wonder that we all find these trips to be regenerating.

It is a real privilege to play such a significant role in the lives of our guests. Most have dreamed of this vacation for much of their lives. For some, our holidays are a time of bonding, for others, personal achievement or discovery.

We consider ourselves lucky to be a part of this extraordinary experience that we share. Another rich season lies ahead – and we can hardly wait!

Hope to see you soon,
