Articles from our archives related to this trip:

Watching Musk OxenThe Thomsen River is a rare "high arctic" gem that few have experienced but many dream of. Situated on Banks Island it is the most northerly river of it's size in North America. The river is best known for it's abundance of muskox. The trip begins and finishes with a Twin Otter flight from Inuvik NWT, across the Amundsen Gulf of the Beaufort Sea. On this 14 day trip we paddle approximately 150 km, traversing open arctic tundra, with plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing, hiking, and photography. The river has shallow gradient and is not technically difficult.

Craft Description: Sea Kayak - Folding kayaks, (there is an option to select a folding canoe for an additional $250/ person fee).

Prerequisites: Beginners - some previous flat water canoe or Kayak experience is required.
